PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio -- Two men from Central Ohio, including a
former Laurelville police officer, were arrested Monday evening after drugs and
paraphernalia were found inside their vehicle, according to the reports.
The Ohio
State Highway Patrol was
doing a traffic stop in Pickaway County when the two men were intercepted. It
was conducted on U.S. 23 at mile marker 13 at around 6:00 Monday evening.
The troopers stopped the
vehicle because of broken tail light and criminal indicators. When the vehicle
stopped, the troopers searched the vehicle and found three dosage units of
suspected heroin, and a syringe, according to the reports.
Other news media outlet
reported that a woman told the law enforcement officials that the drugs did not
belong to the former police officer but to the passenger whom the ex-officer
was giving a ride.
The former Laurelville police
officer is identified as 26-year-old Ronnie L. Gillispie. Reports say that he
was only giving a ride to a friend whom he did saw for years and never
suspected that he was carrying illegal drugs with him.
Records show that the former
officer was fired from the service at the Laurelville Police Departmentafter
failing to return to work following a hand injury. He took a leave from work
for approximately four months. He was fired mid-September. He did not have any
bad records except for his tardiness.
The second person who was taken
into custody is a Circleville man who is identified as 29-year-old Romey R.
Davis. He and the former officer were arrested and charged with possession of
heroin and possession of drug instruments, according to the reports.
The two men are being held in
the Pickaway County Jail.
Reports say that Gillispie will
appear before the court next week.
