Fairfield County Clerk Of Courts And Husband Were Charged

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio – Reports say that the clerk of courts from Franklin County and her husband were arrested Wednesday and were charged.

Fairfield County Clerk of Courts Deborah Smalley and her husband, David Smalley were charged with felony charges and were arrested on the street near their Canal Winchester home, according to the reports.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office were notified about the warrant for the arrest of the couple on Wednesday morning and served the arrest warrant at early in the afternoon, according to the reports.

Other news media outlet reported that the Ohio Auditor’s Office had been investigating the couple for two months. Reports indicated that the investigation started last August 6.

Other news media outlet also reported that when the female suspect appeared before the court, she entered a not guilty plea.
The case was filed against them by Special Prosecutor Robert F. Smith in Fairfield County Municipal Court.
Deborah Smalley is charged with a third-degree felony, a theft in office for using county property and worker time on her political campaign fund, according to the reports

David Smalley was charged with a fourth degree felony, one count of complicity to unlawful interest in a public contract. He was able to post a $ 1,500.00 dollar bond, according to the reports.

Fairfield County Municipal Court Judge David Trimmer ordered the couple to surrender their passports and was told not to leave without prior notification. They were also asked to surrender all their firearms, abstain from drugs and alcohol. They were also commanded to report to the probation office every seven days.

The accused did not contend with the demands of the court and submitted to what the courts demanded. The lawyer of the accused, Scott Wood only asked for a reasonable travel restriction in the state of Ohio.

Four Robberies In Shaker Heights In Six Days

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – The law enforcement officials recorded a fourth robbery in six days and in the fourth robbery, a 17-year-old girl was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday.

The law enforcement officials in Shaker Heights said that there were four suspects in the latest armed robbery, according to the reports.

Officers were called to respond to the RTA train stop, where the incident was reported. Investigators later reported that the 17-year-old girl was waiting alone at the Onaway Rapid Station on Van Aken Boulevard at around 8:15 Tuesday evening when the armed robbery took place.

Reports say that there were four male suspects who approached the victim and one of the men lifted his shirt where a weapon was seen on his waist.

After the suspect showed his weapon on his waist, one of the suspects then demanded money from the girl, according to the reports.

Shaker Heights Lt. Jeff DeMuth said that the girl is unharmed and that they are still investigating the incident. It is still unclear whether the robberies were related.

Records show that the first robbery that was recorded took place in Cleveland Heights-University Heights Library on Lee Roa.

The second and third armed robberies took place on Thursday where there were two suspects who were reported to be suspects.

Records show that the second victim was also a female who was with her child when the crime was committed last Thursday in the intersection of Lee and Fernway roads at around 6:00 p.m. The men were also armed with a gun 

when they robbed the woman. The two suspects robbed the woman with her cell phone. The third armed robbery took place on the same day. It happened several hours later. The victim is also a woman who was robbed in a residence in Shaker Heights. The two suspects were on a bicycle when they robbed the woman of her cell phone, according to the reports. There were no suspects that were arrested in connection with the armed robberies.

Man shot dead in Mifflin Township

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus man was reported to have been shot and killed in the middle of the road in Miami Township on Monday evening.

The shooting took place in the 2800 block of Berrell Avenue near Angler Road where the deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were called to respond after a report of shots that were fired in the area at around 10:30 Monday night, according to the reports.

When the deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim who was lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound. He was unresponsive when the deputies arrived.

Medic personnel who responded to the scene pronounced the man dead at the scene moments later.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene and they were able to interview a neighbor. The neighbor said that when he went out to check what happened, he saw a man ran a few minutes after the shot was heard and saw a man in the middle of the street who appeared to have been shot, according to the reports.

Other news media outlet reported that another witness told the law enforcement officials that he saw the shooter and heard at least three shots. He told the detectives that he saw the man’s silhouette after two gunshots were fired. He saw the shooter standing over the victim and discharged his weapon towards the victim for the third time.

The suspect was not clearly described because reports say that the neighbor only saw a dark figure. The law enforcement officials were not able to make an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.

The name of the victim was not immediately released pending the notification of the victim’s next to kin.

Early Morning Chase Ends In Crash In Seven Hills

NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, Ohio – A Westlake man leads the law enforcement officials in Newburgh Heights in an early morning high speed chase that ended in a crash in Seven Hills, according to the reports.

The law enforcement officials in Newburgh Heights said that they tried to stop the suspect’s vehicle after a traffic violation was committed. The driver did not stop the vehicle, instead, he speed away from the officers.

The chase began on I-77 at around 1:00 early Monday morning.  The driveway drove through Broadway Avenue then went back to I-77 and headed eastbound through Independence and Garfield Heights where the  

the Newburgh Heights terminated their pursuit.

Other news media outlet reported that the officers from the Newburgh Heights used spikes in order to slow down the suspect when they were chasing him but the driver drove in reverse just to escape arrest.

Reports of the incident escalated and law enforcement officials from various cities responded to assist in the situation, according to the reports.

The chase ended in Seven Hills when the driver lost control of the vehicle at Rockside Road and Pinnacle Park Drive where the vehicle crashed. The suspect jumped from the vehicle and tried to run but the law enforcement officers were able to tackle him and took him into custody.

Other news media outlet reported that two cruisers from the Independence Division of Police were damaged as a result of the chase.

The suspect was not identified but medic personnel checked him out for injuries before he was taken into custody by the Newburgh Heights police.

The Newburgh Heights Division of Police, Cuyahoga Heights Division of Police, the Independence Division of Police, Garfield Heights Division of Police , Parma Division of Police, Seven Hills Division of Police were all involved in taking down the suspect.

2 Arrested In Athens Co. Human Trafficking Case

ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio – The week long investigation of the Athens County law enforcement officials paid off after two residents from the Athens County were arrested for human trafficking.

Investigators from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office said that the suspects who were a man and a woman used a 16-year-old girl to have sex with other individuals in exchange for money and drugs.

Athens County Children Services and the Athens County Sheriff’s Office are working on the case and they were able to identify the female suspect as twenty-seven-year-old Ellen Mays. She is a resident of Binder Basin Road in Glouster. She was taken into custody for questioning and later admitted to have set up the girl to perform different acts for money and drugs, according to the reports.

The twenty-seven-year-old Glouster woman was arrested and charged with compelling prostitution and human trafficking. She is being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

She told the officers that she arranged the meeting between the 16-year-old girl and a sixty-nine-year-old resident of Rocky Point Road in Athens. The Athens County Children Services identified the suspect as Fred Kittle Sr.
Records show that he is a registered sex offender in Athens County who was convicted and was behind bars for some time on rape charges.

The sheriff’s office issued a search warrant for the home of Kittle located in the Rocky Point Road.  The deputies found evidences inside the home but did not give details when they executed the search warrant.
Kittle was arrested without incident. He was charged with compelling prostitution and importuning. He is being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

The Athens man and woman are scheduled to appear before the Athens County Municipal Court Monday morning.

Child Stabbed During Domestic Dispute

LONDON, Ohio – A father from central Ohio was arrested and charged after he allegedly stabbed his child early Saturday morning during a domestic dispute.

Other news media outlet reported that stabbing started as a domestic violence. The woman resident of the home located in the 100 block of East High Street called for the officers from theLondon Division of Police after her former boyfriend showed up at her home.

Reports say that the woman told the officers that the suspect was mad at the woman because he was seeing another man. The dispute escalated and ended in the stabbing of the 19-month-old boy.

The woman, who is the boy’s mother, is identified as Brittany Cooper. She told the officer that her former boyfriend was trying to break her window and is kicking his back door open. He also said that he was throwing rocks at her window, according to the reports.

The woman’s boyfriend is identified as Jonathan Davis.  The victim was his son. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that the man threatened to kill the boy if the woman will not come to his home, according to the reports.

The 19-month-old child was at the home of the man when the dispute took place that’s why he was threatening to kill the boy.

Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said that they responded to the area where the domestic violence was reported at around 4:00 early Saturday morning.

Deputies later searched for the suspect and were located in the back of Oak Hill Cemetery. Davis had his knife to the side of the boy’s stomach when the deputies found him.

He took off running when he saw the law enforcement officers. He had to be teased in order to be taken down, according to the reports.

The 19-month-old boy was transported to the Nationwide Children's Hospital. He was treated from a stab wound to the side of his stomach.

Davis was also injured during the incident and was transported to Madison County Hospital. He was later transferred to a hospital in Columbus. He was then taken to jail after he received treatment.

Two Shot In The East Side Of Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Two men were shot over the weekend on the east side of the city of Cleveland.
Both of the incidents that the Cleveland Division of Police is investigating are shooting incident that took place in the vicinity of the East 70th Street in Cleveland. The incidents are treated as separate incidents.

The first incident that was reported concerns a 21-year-old man who was shot in the 1000 block of East 70th Street where the officers were called to respond. The shooting incident took place at around 7:12 Saturday evening.
The name of the victim was not immediately given but investigators say that the shooting started as an aggravated robbery. The suspect is still at large.

Medic personnel who responded to the scene transported the victim to the MetroHealth Medical Center. Hospital officials say that he is in a serious condition.

No other information was released.

The Cleveland Division of Police is asking for the public’s help for any information that will help them in their investigation.

The second shooting incident took place early Sunday morning also in the East 70th Street of Cleveland.
Reports say that shooting victim suffered a single gunshot wound to his leg.

Other news media outlet reported that the person who called for the authorities is the woman who heard the shot from her home and went outside to investigate. She saw the victim lying on the ground and was bleeding.

The law enforcement officers responded to the scene and found the victim who is identified as 21-year-old Walter J. Smiley. He was transported to the MetroHealth Medical Center.

The officers said that when they asked the victim for information with regards to the shooter, he refuse to divulge information, according to the reports.

On the other hand, the woman who is a witness told the officers that the suspected assailant pointed a gun at her when she got out of her home to investigate. She described the suspect as a man who is about 22-year-old and was limping as he walked away from the scene.
