Man shot dead in Mifflin Township

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus man was reported to have been shot and killed in the middle of the road in Miami Township on Monday evening.

The shooting took place in the 2800 block of Berrell Avenue near Angler Road where the deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were called to respond after a report of shots that were fired in the area at around 10:30 Monday night, according to the reports.

When the deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim who was lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound. He was unresponsive when the deputies arrived.

Medic personnel who responded to the scene pronounced the man dead at the scene moments later.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene and they were able to interview a neighbor. The neighbor said that when he went out to check what happened, he saw a man ran a few minutes after the shot was heard and saw a man in the middle of the street who appeared to have been shot, according to the reports.

Other news media outlet reported that another witness told the law enforcement officials that he saw the shooter and heard at least three shots. He told the detectives that he saw the man’s silhouette after two gunshots were fired. He saw the shooter standing over the victim and discharged his weapon towards the victim for the third time.

The suspect was not clearly described because reports say that the neighbor only saw a dark figure. The law enforcement officials were not able to make an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.

The name of the victim was not immediately released pending the notification of the victim’s next to kin.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
